Sustainability at ARMBRUSTER

At ARMBRUSTER, sustainability means courage, commitment and innovation. This is the only way we can build a more sustainable future – for all of us.

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. At ARMBRUSTER, we are acutely aware of our responsibility as a manufacturing company – towards the environment, society and the economy. That’s why sustainability is not just a duty, but a matter close to our hearts, deeply rooted in our company philosophy.

Our Sustainability Goals for 2030:

A key element of our sustainability efforts is the annual recording of our greenhouse gas emissions. We track direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions from energy use (Scope 2), and additional indirect emissions (Scope 3). This balance is gradually being expanded to ensure a comprehensive understanding of our climate impact.

Our sustainability strategy encompasses all three pillars of sustainable development – environmental, social, and economic. We align our actions with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations and follow the principle: “Avoid before reduce before compensate.”

Sustainability Strategy – Our Measures

To ensure we consistently uphold our ecological responsibility, we conduct an annual climate assessment, derive targeted measures to reduce emissions, and implement them step by step.

  • Climate protection through a photovoltaic capacity of 525 kWp, covering 25% of our electricity needs, and the use of geothermal and heat recovery systems. We also continually explore additional renewable energy sources such as wind power and certified green electricity.
  • CO₂ neutrality through increased digital communication with business partners, digital training opportunities for our employees, and our photovoltaic systems – resulting in a saving of 370 tonnes of CO₂.
  • Resource conservation by recycling metal chips, reusing raw material remnants, properly reprocessing emulsions from machining operations, reducing procurement waste through regional partnerships, and selecting climate-friendly materials.
  • Waste reduction and separation by implementing comprehensive waste sorting and introducing ReBowl reusable containers in our company canteen to eliminate single-use waste.
  • Efficient use of resources through the installation of a rainwater infiltration pit, energy-efficient climate control via four groundwater wells, and heating of facilities using waste heat from our machinery – entirely without gas or oil – plus rainwater management.
  • Eco-friendly construction and landscaping, including the use of predominantly native plants for green spaces, landscaped areas along property boundaries and access roads, and the use of environmentally friendly building materials in new constructions.

To ensure the long-term viability and competitiveness of our company, we have already implemented numerous economic measures and continue to explore additional opportunities.

  • Long-term cost reduction through sustainable technologies, including modern, energy-efficient machinery and the expansion of additive manufacturing to reduce material usage and wastewater volume.
  • Reduction in electricity consumption by using energy-efficient buildings (KfW 55 standard) with green roofs and LED lighting, as well as implementing energy monitoring systems to identify major electricity consumers.
  • Cost savings through reuse, such as regrinding cutting tools and systematically separating materials for reintegration into the production process.
  • Sustainable supply chains and partnerships by promoting sustainability in procurement through guidelines ensuring compliance with environmental and social standards, and establishing transparent quality and environmental agreements with our suppliers.
  • Climate-friendly and energy-efficient procurement by sourcing locally, consolidating deliveries, and using climate-friendly alternative products of equal quality.
  • Certifications and audits, including ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and FDA compliance, carbon footprint reporting, and ongoing sustainability reviews carried out by our in-house sustainability team.

Our vision is to create quality of life through health, safety, and comfort. For us, responsibility is not just a word—it’s a promise to our society and the people around us. We are committed to various areas.

  • Global engagement, such as supporting children in need in Africa and Brazil, and integrating refugees and migrants into our workforce.
  • Regional support, including involvement in public institutions such as kindergartens and schools, supporting local children’s aid organizations, promoting the regional economy through partnerships with local suppliers, and supporting local clubs—particularly youth initiatives.
  • Employee involvement, through the formation of a sustainability team and the active participation of all employees in sustainability efforts.
  • Improving working conditions, with measures such as the introduction of home office options, a modern administrative building, soundproofed production areas to reduce noise, as well as exhaust filters and central extraction systems to reduce airborne pollutants.
